Louisville Boat Show
Report
by Diane DeLaGarza

Wow, what an amazing show. I have
never seen a boat show of this magnitude. There was 70.000
square feet of boats, RV's, vendors, etc. and so many
precious children to go around.
There were so many children that came
by the casting pond that had never held a rod and reel. And
then to see their faces after they learned how to cast was
PRICELESS. I felt honored and privileged to be able to be
the one who got to teach them how to cast. I know what
fishing means to me and to my family and I only hope that I
can help spread the fun.
When I learned after the first day
what the number of pledges the Baltimore, MD boat show had
gotten, I made it my personal quest to reach and gain as
many pledges as I could. (I guess that is the competitor
inside of me.) I wanted Anglers' Legacy at the Louisville,
KY Boat Show to make an impact and difference in others'
lives.
As ambassadors of the sport, which we
all are, I want to encourage everyone to go to the Anglers'
Legacy website and Take The Pledge. It is in a small way how
we can all make a difference. Spread the word and Take The
Pledge!

Kathy Magers talks to show attendees about Anglers'
Legacy
I was honored to work the
Take Me Fishing Booth
at the San Diego Boat Show, Feb 3-4, 2008. It was
the unveiling of the newly designed booth, which I
stared at in awe. The mere size of it made
visitors feel like they were outdoors. It featured an
elongated casting pool with mini stage at one end for
the kiddos to cast from. Petitions that are normally
square in boat show booths had been replaced by wavy
panels replicating water – and the posters they
displayed were not only eye-catching, but had humorous
sayings like:
-
Not all fishing buddies have facial hair.
-
There are no bumper stickers that say, I’d rather be
working.
-
You can survive seven days without water. Three if
you’re a fisherman.
-
Better find yourself a good taxidermist.

the Purdue University Bass Team with Casting Pond
I had a great
time in Chicago, even though it was REALLY COLD!!!
There were thousands of kids and adults that visited the
RBFF's "Take Me Fishing" and "Anglers' Legacy" booth.
I was fortunate to have 5 of the Purdue University Bass
Team members there to help at the Kid's Casting Pond.
Not only did the kids learn to cast from these guys, but
I picked up a trick from one of them that I'll be using
on the WBT!
The atmosphere
around the casting pond was very friendly and inviting.
There was a man with a casting tank included at our
Chicago location, so when he was not giving detailed
seminars I would step up on the kid's casting deck and
give several short casting technique seminars while the
kids practiced along with me.
We signed over
500 Anglers' Legacy pledges! The group from RBFF was
terrific and very passionate about their mission
to increase participation in the sport of fishing.
Top notch professionals.

Denese and I
represented our sponsor FishHer at the Baltimore Show as
the FishHer Sisters. We were scheduled to give 3
seminars and help with the casting pond and get show
attendees to sign the Anglers' Legacy Pledge. We met
lots of nice people. The city of Baltimore is beautiful,
as was the weather. We got to meet most of the staff
with RBFF, including Frank Peterson, the President of
RBFF. The Take Me Fishing Center was well designed and
very inspiring to show attendees. The adults were
anxious to test their skills in the casting pond as much
as the kids. The "FishHer Sisters" hope to be invited to
other events in 2008 and share their love of fishing
through their seminars and encourage others to pass
their fishing legacy on by introducing someone new to
the sport. Before we had to fly back home, we got to
tour the National Aquarium located nearby at the Inner
Harbor.
