B J Carson with the "Catch of
the Day"
Have
you ever wondered what WBT anglers do at the end of the
season -
when they don't make the Classic?

Well, of
course. They go fishing! So that is what we did recently.
Cliff & B.J. Carson, Sue Parrish, and I were the lucky
recipients of an invitation from Tom and Kathy Riley to visit
their favorite fishing hole in Golden Meadow, Louisiana. We
were being invited down to fish the bays, bayous, and canals of
Cajun Country.
Our original plan was to fish some, eat a lot, see the sights,
wrap ourselves in the friendliness of the area, and maybe go on
to New Orleans for a round on Bourbon Street.
As B.J., Cliff, Sue & I, and of course the Rileys, made our way
to Golden Meadow, we took in the sights along the way: Huge
sugar cane fields being harvested, the moss hanging in giant
folds from the Cypress trees, houses built on stilts in defense
of the tides and storms. All interesting and beautiful, and yet
not anything like we see in our native states of Mississippi,
Oklahoma, and Texas.
We were happy to help Tom and Kathy break in their new Skeeter
bay boat so got an early start most days. We caught Redfish,
speckled trout, flounder, triggerfish, sheepshead, more catfish
than anyone could even imagine (which we threw back), 2
stingrays, and B.J. even caught a shark. I think (tee hee) the
women "smoked" the men.
We ate oysters(raw & fried), shrimp (grilled, fried & boiled),
stone crab claws, etouffee, gumbo, Po' Boys, smoked sausage, and
wonderful meat pies. Of course, Kathy was up and smiling every
morning and cooked breakfast for all - which we all LOVED!
Liz Sanders and Linda Owens are usually in attendance for these
ventures but jobs and duties kept them from attending this time.
They were sorely missed!
Oh, by the way. We never made it to New Orleans.
